Transport Statements.
A proportionate transport report for small and medium schemes: access, parking, trips and how people will walk, cycle and catch the bus. Sized to the scheme, with a fixed fee.
Also known as: Transport Statement, TS, transport report for planning, highways consultant, highways report for planning
What’s included.
A Transport Statement suits schemes where the transport effects are modest but the council still needs evidence. For some small sites a short technical note is enough. We tell you which, and agree it with the highway authority first.
- Site description and existing conditions
- Access, visibility and swept path drawings
- Car and cycle parking against local standards
- Walking, wheeling, cycling and bus access
- Trip generation using TRICS
- Collision data review
- Servicing, refuse and emergency access
- A Travel Plan statement where asked for
Straightforward, proportionate, agreed early.
Proportionate
NPPF policy TR6 asks for evidence proportionate to the scheme. We write what the officer needs, and no more.
Plain English
Short, clear reports your client, the case officer and the committee can all follow.
Fast turnaround
Where surveys are not needed, a Transport Statement can often be turned round in two to four weeks.
Questions we get asked
Is there a fixed threshold for a Transport Statement?
No. National policy leaves it to councils. Many use the 2007 Department for Transport figures as a starting point, roughly 50 to 80 homes, but local rules vary.
Can a technical note do instead?
Often, for small schemes with a simple access. We will ask the council and tell you honestly.
Do I need traffic surveys?
Not always. Published data and site observation are often enough for a Statement. Where surveys help, we tell you why before you pay for them.
