How schemes in Ashby-de-la-Zouch get decided.
Two councils involved
North West Leicestershire District Council decides the planning application, but Leicestershire County Council is the highway authority and gives the highways response. We deal with both, so the evidence suits the county’s standards as well as the local plan.
What shapes schemes in Ashby-de-la-Zouch
A historic market town next to the A42, with no railway station and new housing on its edges. In the centre, the questions are usually servicing, parking and narrow streets. On the edges, it’s access, visibility and a safe walking route into town.
Roads, rail and buses
The main roads are the A511, next to the A42. There’s no railway station, so bus services and safe walking and cycling routes carry more weight. Where a scheme adds traffic to the A42, National Highways needs to agree the evidence as well. We tell you early if yours does.
